A Landmark Achievement: Airtel Zambia Reaches US$1 Billion Market Capitalisation

We proudly marked a historic moment with the official Bell Ringing Ceremony celebrating Airtel Zambia’s US$1 billion market capitalisation on the Lusaka Securities Exchange.

The event was graced by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Technology and Science, Dr. Brilliant Habeenzu, alongside leadership from the Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a clear reflection of the strong public-private partnership driving Zambia’s digital growth.

Dr. Habeenzu highlighted that this milestone reaffirms the ICT sector’s rising prominence, now one of the largest contributors to Zambia’s GDP, surpassing traditional sectors in growth momentum.

Our Managing Director Mr. Hussam Baday noted that this achievement is grounded in trust from our customers, disciplined execution, and sustained investment. He said Airtel Zambia Plc’s growth is clearly reflected in its share price performance, rising from K43 in 2024 to K175 in 2026, demonstrating strong investor confidence and the effectiveness of our long-term strategy.

We have complemented this growth with meaningful reinvestment, including over US$107 million in 406 new 4G and 5G sites in the last year, alongside initiatives to build schools, connect underserved communities, and drive digital inclusion across the country.

This milestone is more than a valuation, it is a testament to progress, resilience, and our continued commitment to powering Zambia’s digital future.

Airtel Zambia and Lusaka City Council Mark World Environment Day

Airtel Zambia joined the Lusaka City Council in commemorating World Environment Day through a clean-up and litter-picking exercise around Northmead Market in Lusaka. The initiative was inspired by this year’s theme,“Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”

The activity reflects Airtel Zambia’s commitment to promoting clean, healthy, and sustainable communities through collective action and environmental responsibility. As part of the initiative, Airtel donated all cleaning materials used during the exercise to Northmead Market management to support continued clean-up efforts.

Through partnerships such as this, Airtel Zambia remains committed to supporting sustainable practices and initiatives that create a positive impact in the communities it serves.

Empowering Futures Through Education: Airtel Hands Over Makole Community School

Airtel Zambia with support from the Airtel Africa Foundation proudly handed over the newly constructed Makole Community School in Solwezi, North-Western Province, marking another milestone under our School Adoption Programme. The event was graced by the Deputy Permanent Secretary for North-Western Province Mr. Luckson Mulumbi, who hailed Airtel for this significant investment in education.

Makole is one of five schools across five districts being supported under a K12 million investment, with two schools handed over so far, a clear demonstration of our continued commitment to expanding access to quality education.

This project goes beyond classrooms. We delivered a 1x3 classroom block, an ablution facility, a borehole and water tank, desks, and a fully equipped computer lab with internet connectivity, thereby creating a safe, inclusive, and digitally enabled learning environment for over 855 learners.

Our Managing Director Mr. Hussam Baday reaffirmed that this investment is driven by Airtel’s belief that education is the strongest foundation upon which any nation is built, with a deliberate focus on improving the quality of education in rural and underserved communities.

By easing congestion, improving access to clean water and sanitation, and introducing digital learning, this investment is poised to transform the learning experience at Makole Community School, opening up new opportunities, bridging the digital divide, and empowering learners with the skills they need to thrive in a connected world.
